About the Author
ROBERT HOLMAN COOMBS, PhD, is Professor of Biobehavioral Sciences at UCLA School of Medicine, a Certified Addiction Specialist (CAS), and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He serves on the International Advisory Committee of the American Academy of Healthcare Providers in the Addictive Disorders and is author or editor of more than 200 publications, including eighteen books.
WILLIAM A. HOWATT, PhD, EdD, is a faculty member of the Nova Scotia Community College School of Human Services. An Internationally Certified Addiction Specialist (ICAS), he recently completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the UCLA School of Medicine. Author of numerous publications, he is currently coediting (with Robert Holman Coombs) the Wiley Series on Treating Addictions.

Excellent Overview of Addiction Counseling

This is an excellent book to have if you need a complete overview of the many aspects of addiction counseling. It is particularly good if you need a well organized study guide and refresher course for some type of addiction certification test. The information is very well organized and covers the entire counseling process, including theory, assessment, treatment, documentation, ethics, etc.

The addiction Conselor's Desk Reference

I needed this book to study for my State examanation in the fall and it was everything I was looking for. It has everything from counseling practices to dual diagnoses. I was also very impressed with the chapter on Information Resourses. It gives contact information about organizations that offer services related to drug abuse and alcohol.There are publications on magazines and journals that I have found very usefull.I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the addictions field.
