Aiming at those 50 and over, Weiss offers advice on everything from real estate and insurance to annuities and tax-exempt bonds. What makes The Ultimate Safe Money Guide especially timely (this book was written before the Enron disaster made headlines) is the contempt in which he holds both Wall Street and corporate America. According to Weiss, “hype and distortion” is the norm, both in the brokerage/analyst community and in how American business discloses its financial results. He writes that “stock ratings are bought by the companies,” and that based on significant discrepancies between the earnings and cash flow of 6,000 companies his firm has analyzed, 31 percent may be guilty of manipulating their earnings reports. Very good and well written book

The Ultimate Safe Money Guide is a very well written book and researched well. If you feel unsure about the economy, the various markets or financial vehicles, I would highly recommend reading this book. Martin Weiss also has an excellent website for figuring out which companies (insurers, brokers, etc) are the safest. The book lists specific companies which are the least safe, etc. He explains how people and businesses have manipulated stocks and what you can do to protect yourself. Even if you don't believe the economy will keep getting worse, this is a worthwhile read.

Right On! Worth its weight in gold!

There is nothing at all to criticize about this book. It is right on, well written, and a valuable investment. Anyone who follows the advice in this book will avoid losing their shirt to unscrupulous brokers, insurance companies, and financial scams of all kinds. I now understand why my pension fund was frozen for so many years due to the Executive Life debacle. The warnings about the dangers of municipal bonds are invaluable. This book is a goldmine of information not readily available anywhere. I give it the highest possible rating: 5 stars.

he has a business to promote

He has an agenda. He is looking for clients/customers for his services. Weiss Research.He wants to sell you Weiss Ratings. Lots of "warnings" but short of useful advice. I waited to long or I would have returned the book. I was looking to receive a positive "look for" guide lines, with explanations, and got instead a bunch of "don'ts". The section on health and life insurance plus long tem care were out of place and in my opinion not useful for someone over fifty. The cover says "getting unbiased professional help" not from this book you don't., .
